Coordinate occupied spaces

What should be agreed before common areas reopen after a demolition shift?

Agree the intended handback condition before the shift starts. A shared corridor or lift being empty is not the same as the building team accepting it for normal use. Identify who reviews the area and how unresolved conditions will be communicated.

Define the area and its use

Record the corridor, lift, loading area or entrance being handed back and who is expected to use it next. Ask management which checks are required for its operation. Avoid promising a universal cleaning or reinstatement standard: the accepted condition depends on the building, the work and the responsibilities assigned in the scope.

Separate removal checks from specialist checks

The demolition team can report its scope and observed condition. Operation of retained services, access control or other building systems may need review by the responsible trade or manager. Keep those confirmations distinct. A photograph showing an unobstructed floor does not establish that every system serving the space is ready.

Record exceptions before leaving

List incomplete items, their location, the responsible contact and any continuing restriction directed by the building team. Confirm that the next shift receives the same information. If the intended handback cannot be achieved, obtain a revised arrangement rather than quietly treating the space as available. This guide focuses on daily shared-space reopening rather than final demolition completion.
