Plan a residential renovation
Returning a divided house to a single-home layout
SiteClear planning resources / Reviewed 11 October 2026
Compare selective retention and a wider gut
| Interior choice | Removal contribution |
|---|---|
| Retain useful rooms | Remove only reviewed duplicate fixtures and selected divisions |
| Reconnect circulation | Assess specified openings and adjoining finishes |
| Renew the wider interior | Define room-by-room layers and retained construction |
An existing dwelling arrangement is not made eligible for conversion by a demolition quotation. Keep the proposed use and relevant decisions with the design documentation.
Illustrative two-unit-to-one-house plan
Before: each floor has a kitchen and a separate entrance route. After: the upper kitchen becomes a bedroom and the plan uses one reviewed internal circulation route. The ordinary removal list includes agreed upper-floor cabinetry and finishes, while any wall opening or stair change follows separate professional direction.
A wider option also renews adjoining rooms. That adds finish boundaries and receiving-trade work; it is not automatically necessary just because two units become one home.
Trace the junctions
Identify where removed cupboards expose flooring, where an obsolete doorway meets retained walls and where services cross the proposed boundary. The relevant trades handle disconnection and new installations. A wall's location between former units does not establish whether it is removable.
Prepare a coordinated enquiry
Bring existing and proposed plans, retained rooms, known approval status and the builder's expected receiving condition. SiteClear can assess the ordinary interior contribution and any separately reviewed structural scope. Repairs and new finishes remain assigned to the receiving contractors; legal advice and a conversion eligibility decision are not part of this guide.
