Renovating staff areas inside a manufacturing facility
SiteClear planning resources / Reviewed 11 October 2026
SiteClear’s commercial strip-out service provides the route for assessing the agreed building interiors. Start with the staff-area layout the business needs and identify the obsolete rooms and finishes preventing that arrangement.
Compare the staff-space options
An office refresh may retain the room divisions and replace selected finishes. A wider staff-area renovation may remove an old meeting room to enlarge the break area, relocate a corridor or replace an unused enclosure. The demolition package follows those physical changes, rather than the general description “factory refurbishment.”
| Intended improvement | Building interiors to assess | Retained area to identify |
|---|---|---|
| Reorganised offices | Agreed partitions, doors and finishes | Rooms and building components outside the new layout |
| Larger break or changing area | Obsolete attached fit-out and selected room divisions | Adjacent facilities still needed by the business |
| Clearer staff circulation | The defined obstruction or enclosure | Production space and retained access routes |
Draw the boundary with the production area
Show where the staff-space work meets production equipment, process services or controlled areas. The facility team identifies the responsible specialists for those systems and establishes what can be released for building work. Machinery rigging, process decommissioning and treatment of hazardous materials are separate scopes.
This allows a useful interior-demolition package to be developed without treating the entire manufacturing operation as demolition work. Ordinary rooms can still have connections crossing the proposed boundary, so include available service and layout information in the assessment.
Connect the removals to the new staff layout
An illustrative planning example: a facility combines an underused meeting room and an old staff kitchenette into a larger break area. The design retains the adjacent washrooms and production floor. The assessed removals include specified cabinetry, room partitions and finishes; service alterations and the replacement kitchenette belong to the appointed trades.
The agreed demolition endpoint is the agreed exposed interior, not a completed staff facility. Allocate new walls, floors, building services and finishes to their receiving contractors. SiteClear’s interior demolition service explains the broader removal contribution.
Fit the package into the facility programme
The owner and GC decide which staff spaces can be unavailable and what access arrangements the actual facility requires. A break-room renovation beside production needs more than a calendar date: the project team must establish the work boundary, routes and affected services.
Use the building-services shutdown guide when a service interruption is part of the plan. A scheduled shutdown does not automatically release every system or area; it should correspond to the defined work and the responsible trades’ arrangements.
Request an assessment of the building work
Contact SiteClear for an estimate with the staff-area layout, proposed changes, retained facilities and preferred project sequence. Initial enquiries can describe the building work without including confidential production information. The assessment can then focus on the demolition contribution needed for the new staff environment.
