Confirm scope and approvals
How should exclusions be written into a demolition work package?
Write exclusions as named responsibilities and handover points, not a vague list of things by others. A useful exclusion says what is outside the removal scope, who is expected to arrange it and what evidence or condition is needed before the demolition team can proceed.

Identify the interface rather than only the trade
For example, a retained fixture may need authorised disconnection before removal can be assessed. Record the fixture reference, responsible contact and expected release condition. Avoid treating a note that electrical work is excluded as proof that every connection has already been addressed. The scope needs a usable boundary between the two activities.
Make the receiving condition explicit
If new installation, refinishing or final cleaning is outside the demolition scope, describe the condition intended at handover. An exposed surface and a surface ready for a particular new finish are different outcomes. Ask the next contractor what information they need to assess their work rather than promising a substrate condition that has not been inspected.
Resolve unassigned items before release
Review the exclusion list with the owner or project lead. Flag items that have no responsible party and decide how they affect the planned sequence. Keep exclusions in the same current package as the removal list so they do not disappear when a drawing is forwarded separately. SiteClear's commercial assessment can then focus on a defined scope with visible interfaces.
Illustrative scope and response comparison
A common enquiry package can distinguish floor-covering area, wall-face finish area, counted fixtures, retained rooms and unknown layers. These are different descriptions, not interchangeable quantities. Leave professional measurements and concealed conditions unresolved until their responsible assessment is complete.
An allowance identifies a provisional scope assumption needing evidence; an exclusion names work assigned elsewhere; an alternative describes a different proposed outcome. For example, the package may hold an unknown floor layer for review, exclude new flooring installation and compare retaining a counter with removing it. No monetary allowance or price is implied here.
Ask each response to identify its included removal endpoint, excluded tasks, assumptions and the person who resolves each unknown. If a fit-out contractor wants an early measurement appointment, record which surfaces will still be provisional and keep final exposed measurement with the receiving contractor.
