Prepare trade interfaces
What should an initial ceiling-access survey establish before a strip-out?
An initial survey should establish what can be observed, what remains concealed and which specialists need to resolve the next questions. It should not turn a ceiling opening or an old plan into a blanket instruction to remove everything above the tiles.

Agree the survey's purpose and limits
Identify the proposed ceiling removal and the questions the project team needs answered. Available observations may concern retained services, access restrictions or differences from drawings. Ask who is authorised to inspect and whether further investigation is appropriate. Do not disturb suspect finishes or insulation to complete an owner's checklist.
Record findings by location
Use room and grid references that match the current plan. Distinguish visible items from inferred routes and note inaccessible areas. Material information is a separate input: an observation of a ceiling void does not establish the composition of every layer. Share report limitations with the responsible project team rather than omitting them from the demolition package.
Convert findings into reviewed scope
The appropriate designer, trade or specialist should resolve which items are retained and what release conditions apply. Keep the resulting instruction separate from the survey photographs so an observation is not mistaken for approval. SiteClear can assess the ordinary removal scope once those boundaries are communicated. This guide concerns information gathering before scope definition, not a technical method for ceiling investigation.
Illustrative pre-design access question
A designer needs to understand a ceiling junction before finalising a room change. The project team first determines what authorised investigation is appropriate and which specialist must attend. The observation record distinguishes what was visible from what remains concealed; it is not an instruction to remove the ceiling.
Before any agreed access is created, assign responsibility for the temporary closure, protection and later reinstatement. The next demolition scope follows the resulting reviewed information, not the fact that an opening exists.
