Plan debris and handover

How can part of a floor be handed to the next trade while removal continues?

Define the handed-over area and its interfaces separately from the continuing demolition zone. A progress percentage does not tell the next contractor where they may work or which shared routes remain available. The project lead should coordinate an explicit partial handover.

Mark the released boundary

Identify the rooms or components included, the relevant drawing revision and any exclusions. Ask the receiving trade to state the condition they need to assess their next activity. Do not assume that an area free of demolition debris is automatically ready for every installation. Record any required specialist checks separately from the removal team's scope completion.

Review shared access and services

The next trade may need the same lift, corridor or building contact as the demolition team. Management and the project lead should resolve those interfaces before both teams rely on the space. A partial handover should not silently extend either contractor's control into the other's work area.

Keep responsibility changes visible

Record the handover date, accepting contact and outstanding items that stay with the original scope. If later demolition needs access through the released area, agree that arrangement rather than assuming continued use. This page concerns transfer between active contractors; the daily common-area guide concerns returning shared spaces to occupants, and the final handover remains a separate review.
