Coordinate building access
Booking the Freight Elevator: The Logistics of a Downtown Strip-Out
Book the complete route, not just the elevator. Ask management to confirm the work window, car dimensions and permitted loads, protection, loading dock access and the person who can release the elevator to the crew.

Start with the building booking package
A reservation is useful only if it matches the removal plan. Give management the floor, work area, proposed materials and destination at ground level. Ask whether the elevator is shared during the booking and whether an operator or security escort is needed. Record the agreed arrangements with the demolition scope.
Match the dock to the elevator
Walk the connection from the work area to the car, then from the lobby to the truck. Door openings, turns, changes in level and temporary storage space can constrain movement even when the elevator itself is suitable. Confirm who controls each door and where material can wait without obstructing other users.
What to have ready
Prepare the building rules, booking contact, access drawings if available, and photographs of the route taken with permission. Ask management for actual equipment limits; a generic freight-elevator capacity is not a substitute. The demolition team determines handling and load arrangements after reviewing the materials.
If a booking changes
Agree who can authorise a revised work sequence when a car is unavailable. Avoid assuming that passenger elevators, corridors or loading bays become substitutes. A pause in debris movement may require the removal sequence to change too.
Questions to record at the planning review
Name the contact for an unavailable car.
Record which removal activity depends on that booking.
Obtain approval before using an alternative route.
